Bunnings continued to work closely with local authorities and state and federal governments to educate residents on emergency preparation. The below initiatives were supported in store and online during the year.
The Victorian Government’s Powerline Bushfire Safety Program, which aimed to educate the community on power outages in extreme weather conditions. Information was displayed in the D.I.Y. Information Centre and in-aisle next to relevant products.
The New South Wales Rural Fire Service’s Get Ready Weekend, which involved local firefighters discussing bushfire preparedness with residents, as well as getting behind the sausage sizzle to raise funds.
The Get Ready Queensland Campaign, which provided residents with access to information on emergency plans and kits along with direct contact with local emergency services volunteers about disaster preparation and recovery.
The South Australian Country Fire Service’s Bushfire Ready Campaign, which aims to prepare the home for bushfire season. Volunteer firefighters visited selected stores with a focus on regional locations in bushfire prone areas.
For the first time New Zealand stores supported the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management’s Get Ready Week, which aimed to raise awareness of how households can prepare for emergencies such as floods, storms, earthquakes, tsunami and volcanoes. Stores provided residents with preparedness information and ran D.I.Y. Workshops to help kids and families learn ways to prepare.
Bunnings’ support for emergency preparedness campaigns will continue in the next financial year.
