In 2017,Curragh joined forces with sub-contractor Workpac to fund the purchase of a car for a PCYC (Blackwater) community initiative. The Braking the Cycle program aims to assist disadvantaged young people living in the community to gain their drivers’ license. Participants are matched with a mentor driver to help them complete the mandatory 100 hours of supervised driving.
The learner-driver car was purchased through the Positive Energy Program, a fund set up between Curragh and Workpac to support the local community in line with Curragh’s procurement framework. During the year $20,000 was invested into the local community through this fund.
Not having a drivers’ license is a critical barrier in gaining employment for disadvantaged youth, especially in areas where there is limited or no public transport.
Support of this program is a great example of Curragh’s commitment to supporting the local community, both financially and through employee engagement.
