Coles Liquor raises over $1 million for SecondBite

Coles’ Liquor stores across Australia raised more than $1.1 million in 2016-17 to help national charity SecondBite provide surplus food to people in need.

As part of their first major national fundraising campaign, Liquorland, First Choice and Vintage Cellars stores sold $2 donation cards for SecondBite during the year – starting last winter, kicking off again prior to Christmas and launching a new appeal in June.

The funds raised by Coles Liquor help to pay for SecondBite's operational costs in providing food to the increasing number of people in need.

For every $2 donation card purchased at Coles Liquor, SecondBite can provide the equivalent of eight healthy meals to Australians doing it tough.

Coles Liquor Director Greg Davis said the whole liquor team was extremely proud to help such a great cause.

“This is a true partnership between Coles Liquor and SecondBite – both organisations have amazing teams who are working together to provide millions of meals to needy Australians,” he said.

With Coles' support, SecondBite works with more than 1,300 community food programs to redistribute rescued food across Australia to those in the community who need it most.

Since November 2011, SecondBite has collected the equivalent of more than 40 million meals in surplus food from Coles supermarkets for redistribution to community food groups.

More than 660 Coles supermarkets across Australia now donate their surplus food to SecondBite.
