Australian-first technology helps trolley collection

In an Australian-first, Coles Services has collaborated with a Victorian tech-company Lockelec Innovation to design and develop a remote-controlled aid called the Red Rover, which removes the manual-handling hazards involved in trolley collection.

Engineered to meet strict safety specifications, the unique Red Rover has been tested for the past six months at Coles’ supermarket at Craigieburn in Victoria, and has resulted in significant safety improvements for Coles Services team members.

The Red Rover is operated by a Coles Services team member via a Bluetooth remote control, enabling the safe collection of up to 20 trolleys at a time and improving productivity by up to five per cent. Coles Services is now working with Lockelec Innovation to expand production of the Red Rover for a national rollout.
